Author Biography
MELANIE FAITH is an author and educator who
resides in rural Pennsylvania. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing
(in Poetry) from Queens University of Charlotte, NC (2007) and a BA
in English from Wilson College (1999). Her current poetry chapbook,
Bright Burning Fuse, was a finalist in the 2008 Keyhole Magazine
Chapbook contest and was published by Etched Press (www.etchedpress.com)
in December 2008.
She has been a small-town newspaper journalist, an ESL classroom
teacher for international students, and (currently) a literature and
writing tutor at a private, college preparatory high school. She
fervently advocates the snail mail letter, wit and whimsy, paperback
novels with well-loved, dog-eared pages, and fountain pens kept in a
hand-painted ceramic cup on her always overflowing desk. She thinks
impromptu camera-clicking and hammock-lulling match any season, but
that credit card bills and snow drifts should be banished. She has
seldom met a book she didn’t enjoy or a page she didn’t thrill to
fill with script. Her writing and avid reading proclivities started
early, according to family folklore and quite a few fast-fading
Kodak snapshots (see side-bar, circa 1978).
In addition to writing two novels seeking representation, she is
recently pursuing the craft of the personal essay. Her article about
increasing dramatic tension between fictional characters appeared in
RWR (Dec. ’08) and an article about writing critique groups will be
published in The Writer (Nov. ’09). Her poems and landscape and
architectural photography recently appeared or will appear in MO:
Writings From The River (Montana State University, Spring ’09
issue), The Broken Plate (Ball State University, April ’09 issue),
Shape of a Box (Dec. ’08, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DlIsyfyhzc),
The Binnacle (University of Maine), Mademoiselle‘s Fingertips,
Emprise Review and The Iguana Review.
Her writing has been featured on the World Poetry Café Radio Show
(Vancouver, Canada, January 13, 2009, ), earned honorable mention in
the 2008 Nostalgia Press Poetry Awards and 3rd place in a Maison
Neuve Magazine (Montreal) contest, and placed honorable mention in
the Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Prizes. She was featured reader
in her alma mater’s 2005 Wilson College Visiting Writers Series and
recipient of the 2006 Outstanding Young Alumnae Award.
